Ziggy, also called Zee, is Pax's sister. As an orphan, after the Noise, she found her way to Liberty and was raised by Annie and Rosa. She is described as a gearhead who can fix machines and robots like the Caretaker.
History[]
Before the heist[]
Ziggy was born in around 1999, but was affected by the Broadcast and turned into an Anomal about a year later. By the time Annie and Rosa found her and adopted her into the anarcho-primitivist commune Liberty, Ziggy was missing an eye, which needed a mechanical replacement. At some point, Ziggy lost a pinky when using her ability to phase through matter.
In April 2009, Ziggy and Pax played with a recorder, but the mood turned sour when Pax discovered Ziggy took the ME-EM console without asking, causing the two to fight over it, to the point where Pax used the Push vocal. This caused Ziggy to resent Pax for not sharing, leaving her vulnerable to being possessed by an Echo in December 2009. Pax used the ME-EM to remove the Echo, which improved Ziggy's mood. The two then raced to dinner, but Ziggy used her own Vocal to easily win.
Approximately in 2013-2014, Ziggy and Pax took a trip to another commune, where they stole a baseball bat. They got caught by the locals and Pax used her Vocal to protect Ziggy, but this caused enough commotion that Annie and Rosa had to exile Pax to prevent Justice from learning of her powers and going after Liberty. However, the two mothers lied to Ziggy and claimed Pax ran away from home, as they feared Ziggy could not handle the truth. As a result, Ziggy resented Pax for leaving her and never contacting her, though she kept the bat and ME-EM console in the hopes Pax would return someday. At some point after Rosa's death, Liberty was unable to sustain their resources because of all the people leaving, so Annie asked Ziggy to repair robots to serve as labor.
Issue 2: Ghosts[]
On October 14, 2030, Pax finds Ziggy at their old hideout, but Ziggy snaps at her and accuses her of prioritizing the other commune residents for conversation. At the kitchen, Pax tries to talk to Ziggy again, only for Ziggy to ignore her. Pax can choose to use Vox to force Ziggy to listen, but if she refrains from doing so and continues to call out to Ziggy, the latter will still be annoyed, but somewhat appreciative that Vox was not used. Pax tries to tell her side of the story about the exile, but Ziggy refuses to believe her on the basis that their moms would never lie to them and Pax is an ex-con artist. Pax tries to convince Ziggy that it is best for her to leave Liberty and seek refuge in Nova Scotia, but Ziggy does not want to abandon her home. At best, Ziggy agrees to fix the robot driver, just to get Pax to leave faster. She also becomes angered when Pax asks for the ME-EM, since she interprets this as the true reason Pax returned. She gives back the ME-EM, which is now repaired and ready to hunt Echoes.
In Ziggy's workshop in the base, she fixes up the driver robot to working condition, but still refuses to forgive Pax. However, the two are forced to team up when Justice attacks the commune. Ziggy reveals that she modified the baseball bat from the sisters' childhood to have electromagnetic capabilities, turning it into both a melee and ranged weapon for Pax to use, though Ziggy insists that it is only on loan. After the two sisters and Sai defeat the Justice officers and a reactivated Junior Justice robot, Annie reveals the truth of the exile and the lie that was told to Ziggy, causing Ziggy to be angered at this breach of trust. Ziggy is still angry at Pax for not contacting her, but agrees to join the crew because Liberty is now on Justice's radar.
At Knapper Campground, Ziggy gets along with all the crew members other than Pax and explains how she repaired and spliced parts from old robots for the sake of Liberty's economy. However, her relationship with Pax is still rocky, with the latter stating that Ziggy is like a stranger to her, but Noam states that Pax needs to learn about the new Ziggy. If Pax talks to Ziggy, the latter will suspect the crew's mission is another con and extending the conversation further will increase non-Idealist Codas.
Issue 3: Caretakers[]
In Nevada, Ziggy once again rebuffs Pax's attempts to talk, to the point of leaving her meal uneaten. When the crew stops at the Standard Energy Service Station, the robot driver takes off with the bus, and even Ziggy's speed is not enough to catch up. At first, Ziggy attempts to use the video phone to try to contact Annie, but to no avail. If the player chooses to steal the truck in the garage, Ziggy is willing to repair it if she is on the Pragmatist Coda, though this also requires either Sai or Theo to be on the Way of the Fist or Okay Dad respectively so that the garage door can be opened. If the player instead chooses to start a fire to lure the Horned Riders, Ziggy can steal a bottle of alcohol while Henry is distracted, which she uses to make a molotov cocktail for the fire. If the Horned Riders' bikes are stolen, Ziggy will drive a bike with Pax sitting behind her to throw molotov cocktails at their pursuers.
The crew finds the bus crashed near a trailer park, and Ziggy quickly gets underneath the vehicle to repair any damage. Later, Ziggy joins Pax and Theo in investigating the trailer park, where they are threatened by Mike, who is wielding a Justice rifle. Ziggy can either harmlessly disarm Mike or knock him out, allowing Pax to remove that man's Echo in either case and befriend him in the former. After opening the entrance to the underground Justice school, Ziggy and Pax enter while Theo stays behind to operate the elevator, but Ziggy is anxious about how the elevator could fail, among other worries. Upon seeing a JFK poster, Ziggy states that JFK would never approve of Justice's current authoritarian policies while Pax states this is what he would have wanted. As they continue through the school, Ziggy calms down and admits being angry at Pax all the time is emotionally exhausting. After passing through the school library, the two fight off several robots who are a similar model to the bus driver. After seeing an Echo-eating squid for the first time, Ziggy is shocked and takes a couple of minutes to rest, giving Pax a chance to get closer to her. In the gym, the sisters team up with a Horned Rider Anomal, Eli, who is being attacked by his old comrades for leaving the gang. Ziggy quickly develops a crush on Eli and has a long chat with him about his powers, as well as his reason for investigating the school. The party soon comes across a steel beam, which Pax crosses, only for it to collapse under Ziggy and send her falling inside a wall. Pax has to reach Ziggy's floor and find the thinnest part of the wall to guide Ziggy back to safety. After some more bonding and robot fighting, the sisters find Eli, who tells them the truth about Justice and their lab for turning children into Anomals. After fighting the Fireman and his Horned Rider minions in the cafeteria, the trio finds the whispering room, where they recover the driver robot, now sentient and named Caretaker. Back at the surface, the Horned Riders captured everyone else in the crew except Sai, forcing Ziggy, Pax, and Eli to fight the gang once again. After Eli reconciles with Patsy, he, Ziggy, and the Horned Riders can listen to the crew's recital.
At Signal Hill Campground, Ziggy chats with Eli near his bike, discussing topics like his past in the Justice school, Ophelia, the Horned Riders, and Bituman. At the campfire, Ziggy discusses Caretaker's past with Justice with the others.
Issue 4: Promised Lands[]
If Noam is not on the Maybe Someday Coda by the time the crew reaches Utah, Ziggy will draw a mustache on Pax's face while the latter sleeps. In the Betty's Diner parking lot, she and Eli discuss what to do about his motorcycle, and she offers to be his passenger if he gets tired of riding by himself. When two Justice officers show up and question the crew about their punk rock career, Ziggy and Eli are unable to give matching answers with the rest of the crew, making the officers suspicious. If the conversation lasts long enough, the officers will start repeating anti-Anomal conspiracy theories, angering Ziggy. If Pax does not speak up, Ziggy will protest against the officers for dehumanizing Anomals, nearly causing an altercation that Noam has to stop. On the bus, Ziggy is afraid Pax is mad about the former's cover story error, and Pax can choose to be either harsh or gentle about updating Ziggy on the cover story.
Outside the New Jerusalem abandoned mall, Ziggy takes apart a broken robot and extracts a power source, which she uses to power on the keypad on the door, allowing the crew to enter. Alternatively, if Ziggy is on the Idealist Coda, she can phase through the door and push it from the inside, but needs Pax to pry it open from the outside. After getting acquainted with the librarian Lottie and the raccoon Mr. President, Ziggy and Eli go to a photo booth and an arcade, where they play Paddlepong with Pax and Theo. She also manages to set a high score on Galaxy Mauraders during the time Pax interacts with other crewmates. Right before bed, Ziggy notices that her mechanical eye is degrading in quality and needs to eventually be serviced or replaced. That night, the Puritans invade the mall, forcing Ziggy, Pax, Sai, and Eli to fight against several cyborgs, but their attacks do not do any damage until Theo uses an EMP grenade. After defeating the cyborgs, the crew escapes while the Puritans are distracted by the Mormon Guard.
At Texas Beach Campground, Ziggy reprimands the senior crewmates for not informing her and Eli of the Puritans being on their tail. Ziggy calls Annie on the video phone and confirms that Annie is okay, and then prays to Jane of the Void in order to cope with the situation, though she admits she does not completely believe in Jane.
Issue 5: Yellow Brick Road[]
At the Palisade, Colorado checkpoint, Ziggy wonders if Lottie will simply retire or use her chaotic mind to invent something. However, her mechanical eye is still malfunctioning and she tells Eli about how her adoptive parents found her with a missing eye. When Noam senses an Anomal at Alpine Visitor Center, Ziggy argues in favor of finding the Anomal and goes with Pax and Eli to the building. They end up finding a nameless Anomal, Girl, and rescue her from the Justice officers. When Justice reinforcements show up and attack an uninvolved civilian couple, Ziggy insists that it is better to retreat than to help the couple and risk blowing the crew's cover. If Pax chooses to stay and fight Justice, Ziggy will begrudgingly help, though will also admit that Pax and Eli have a point that it is morally better to help the couple they accidentally put on Justice's radar. At the Standard Energy Station, Ziggy discusses with Pax, Sai, and Theo what snack to give to Girl and suggests getting gummies, pretzels, or crackers.
Pax discovers Justice's upcoming attack on the Yellow Brick Road Motel, so Ziggy gets off with Pax, Sai, and Caretaker to search the place and rescue the librarian. If Pax chooses, Ziggy can use her Vocal to break into most of the rooms, but room 3's door is too thick for her ability. Once the party gets the door open, Ziggy returns to the bus to bring Theo to meet the librarian Sol.
At Peaceful Valley Campground, Ziggy and Pax will have a discussion with Sol about the Weave's tactics, and she may or may not agree depending on her Coda. She and Pax also tell him about Girl's situation and Justice's secret experiments to create and weaponize Anomals.
Issue 6: The Bad Lands[]
In the bus ride through the Great Plains Exclusion Zone, the crew discusses rumors about the area, with Ziggy stating that Jane of the Void is said to have originated there. When the bus crashes into a bionic lifeform and Girl runs off, Ziggy stays behind with most of the crew and spends most of her time chatting with Sol about the Weave, since her mechanical eye cannot function optimally in the storm. Pax, Eli, and Girl return with Ophelia, and Ziggy listens to Eli's retelling of the events in Lebanon.
At Camp Oakwood, Ziggy listens to Sol's account of the fascist Loyalists militia and how several factions teamed up to defeat them, and mentions that one of her mothers was in that alliance. She also discusses how hopeless the standard political process is at stopping Justice. Ziggy expresses slight jealousy at Eli hanging out with Ophelia, but acknowledges that the two need to reconnect after so many years.
Issue 7: Let There Be Light[]
Ziggy plays Crypts and Cultists with Pax, Eli, and Ophelia. If the crew incurred too much suspicion from Justice, the game ends prematurely, otherwise it continues long enough for Ziggy to try to cheat by looking at the TTRPG book, only for Eli to hide the information behind an illusion. Suddenly, the bus breaks down near a house in Iowa, so Ziggy and CT leave in order to look for the previous station, where they can find tools to fix the heat shield. However, they return to find that Sai left the crew after a bitter argument and could no longer be found.
Issue 8: Battle of the Bands[]
In Chicago, Ziggy is one of the candidates to pair up with Pax in exploring the city and looking for the Bad Lands Bar. The crew finds the bar and makes it past the bouncers, but not only is the bar filled with cops, Ziggy, Noam, and Eli get drunk before the Battle of the Bands. The crew manages to get their act together just in time for their performance. Regardless of the results, Ziggy and the crew will party, with Ziggy professing her love of her found family, appreciation of Pax, or bitterness towards Pax depending on her Coda path. Ziggy, Theo, Caretaker, and Eli return to the train station ahead of Pax and Noam, but the latter two inform everyone that Justice has identified them.
Issue 9: Rotown[]
After arriving in Rotown, Ziggy continues to mourn the mixtape vendor Anomal who sacrificed himself to save Pax. Ziggy and Eli stand guard outside the meeting room, but Justice shows up with armored vehicles and tiltrotors. Ziggy, Pax, and Eli fight against several Justice officers as well as Praetor Walker. When Walker grabs Pax with his mech, Ziggy takes advantage of Walker's open cockpit to kick him, allowing Pax to take him hostage. After Pax and Eli use their combined Vocal to crash two tiltrotors, Ziggy and her friends flee to the getaway truck, but Pax suffers a dire stab wound. Ziggy and Eli carry Pax to the truck, but her condition is too much for Sol to heal.
Issue 10: The Maine Event[]
After Pax is captured by Justice and taken to a New York City hospital, Ziggy and Eli team up with Sai to rescue Pax. In the elevator, Ziggy is disappointed that Pax never told her about the pregnancy and admonishes Sai for leaking information to Justice, blaming the latter for Justice attacking Liberty, though Sai counters that Justice was already on its way. They make it to the getaway van and make it out of the hospital parking garage using Nainai's Vocal. After Sai and Sol leave, Ziggy and the rest of the crew are driven by the Weave member Ruth to their destination. At a Standard Energy Service Station, Ziggy and Ruth discuss the prospect of rebuilding the Weave. At Betty's Diner, Ziggy, Eli, and Ophelia banter about who is the titular robot's favorite customer. At Schoodic Point, the crew is split into two team in an attempt to elude the Puritans and Justice, with Ziggy going with Pax, Eli, and Ophelia. After the group makes it past the Acolytes and Justice troops, the Adjunct immobilizes Ziggy, Eli, and Ophelia, but they are freed when Pax wins the fight. At the docks, Pax delivers a speech through her positive Vocal in order to free the other group from the Overseer, and she affirms whichever Coda path Ziggy is on. The Overseer threatens the crew with a gun, but Ziggy uses her speed to simply punch the former unconscious. After the Herald, aka Axiom, is defeated, Ziggy remains in the Republic, being the only Coda character who always chooses not to board the boat.
Ending[]
At some point, Ziggy recruits Sai to help with whatever goal she has in mind.
- In the Idealist Coda, Ziggy and Sol rebuild the libraries in the Republic, starting with a location in New Jersey.
- In the Defeatist Coda, Ziggy and Sol build a new commune called Hope.
- In the Pragmatist Coda, Ziggy and Sol join an anti-Justice resistance on the East Coast and attempt to make contact with Sol's old comrade, Adriana.
Appearance[]
Ziggy had natural black hair as a child, but dyed it blonde with pink highlights as an adult, while also having an undercut on the left side. She has a vertical scar across her left eyebrow, along with a white mechanical left eye and a dark gray right eye. Due to an accident with her Vocals, Ziggy is missing her left pinky. Her default attire consists of a gold nose ring on the right side of her nose, a white tank top, a falcon colored off-shoulder shirt with a yellow frequency line, gray arm sleeves, falcon colored pants with a yellow line on each side, a complex brown belt and pouch, and dark brown shoes with gray leg warmers covering them.
Her attire throughout the game consists of:
- In her childhood flashbacks in Issue 2, Ziggy wears a light green shirt, pink overalls, long white and yellow socks, and green boots.
- In Issue 2, Issue 3 (campground), Issue 6, Issue 9, Issue 10, and the Idealist Coda ending, Ziggy wears her default attire. In Issue 6, 9, and 10, she removes her arm sleeves and leg warmers. During the final confrontation at Schoodic Point, Ziggy wears a black cowl over her default attire. In the Pragmatist Coda ending, Ziggy wears a green camo jacket over her default attire.
- In Issue 3, Ziggy removes her default shirt, arm sleeves, and leg warmers due to Nevada's heat.
- In Issue 4, Ziggy wears a black shirt with a yellow circle print and pine cone colored pants. She removes her arm sleeves and wears white leg warmers. In Issue 7, she dons this attire again and adds white arm sleeves.
- In Issue 5, Ziggy wears a black cowl, black arm sleeve, black leg warmers, a white shirt, and white pants.
- In Issue 8, Ziggy wears a black shirt with a rib cage print, pants with a green leopard pattern and red sides, and black shoes. She does not wear any arm sleeves or leg warmers. For the Battle of the Bands performance, she wears black lipstick and pink eyeshadow around her right eye.
- In the Defeatist Coda ending, Ziggy wears a thick brown jacket, a dark gray pom beanie, and fur-lined brown boots.
Personality[]
Ziggy has a sarcastic demeanor and a pessimistic outlook on life, being anxious and insecure about her sibling bond with Pax, especially in the Defeatist Coda. This causes her to think the worst of situations, making it hard for her to believe in others. The Defeatist Coda also emphasizes Ziggy's desire to stay in her comfort zone and seek a life that is familiar to her old one in Liberty. Ziggy slowly learns to trust Pax again and makes more progress in their relationship on the Idealist Coda, which causes her to want to extend that trust to others and consider what she can do to improve the world. Like Pax, Ziggy is willing to fight to survive, which is reflected in her Pragmatist Coda, possibly causing her to gain the desire to engage in guerilla warfare against Justice.
Abilities[]
Physical abilities[]
Even without using her enhanced speed, Ziggy has a decent amount of physical strength. She can kick Walker hard enough to knock his mech off balance and she can knock out grown adults like Mike and the Overseer with a single punch.
Mechanical expertise[]
Ziggy is knowledgeable in hardware and robotics, allowing her to build and maintain robots to serve as laborers for Annie. She even managed to repair the ME-EM device to working condition despite it being developed by the American Republic's scientists. She designed Pax's electromagnetic bat and glove by using leftover Justice parts and made it upgradeable with additional machine parts.
Vocal[]
Ziggy's Vocal vibrates her molecules at high frequencies. This allows her to move faster than the eye can see and allows her to phase through solid matter. However, there is a limit to how much solid matter she can safely move through, and she has lost body parts in the past because of accidents with this ability. She is also unable to phase through the binding technique used by the Adjunct. Another drawback is that this Vocal consumes a lot of calories, requiring an adequate amount of nourishment to use consistently.
