The trailer park in Nevada is a seemingly mundane location that is nominally owned by Republic Mobile Homes Ltd., but Pax's crew makes a detour there and discovers ominous information concerning the American Republic government.
History[]
Before the heist[]
After the events of the Broadcast, Justice constructed Elko County Facility in Nevada to detain children in their custody, while also building a fake trailer park aboveground in order to hide the facility's existence. Like the re-education site, Camp Cedar, the school was used to educate the children to be obedient to Justice, and several robots from the American Robotics Corporation acted as caretakers to manage the childrens' mental health and development. The facility also contained a laboratory to study Protolanguage, as well as a spherical room with hexagonal pistons lining the wall. This "whispering room" had specialized equipment to turn subjects into Anomals and grant them the power of Vox. After subjecting children to the whispering room, Justice ordered them to use words to mess with people. The few who displayed Vox were sent to an unknown location for further research while those who did not were treated the same as before. Two of the children, Eli and Ophelia, hid their powers in order to avoid the fate of other Anomals. Once the facility was shut down, Justice transferred the children to different Justice academies to train as officers. On around July 2030, three months before the events of Dustborn, Mike settled down in the trailer park in order to grow tomatoes and find UFOs, though he was perplexed by the fake trailers and the single Justice rifle that was left behind.
Issue 3: Caretakers[]
Outside[]
On October 16, 2030, the crew's robot driver uses their cached memory to locate the trailer park and drive the tour bus there while leaving the crew behind. Shortly afterwards, Eli enters the trailer park, with his former Horned Riders allies hunting him down for abandoning Patsy. All parties enter the school by moving the mobile home on the upper level of the park. The repeated movement of the mobile home destroys Mike's tomato garden, causing him to become distressed and leaving him vulnerable to an Echo infection.
The crew eventually locates the trailer park by using the tracker that Theo placed on the robot. The bus is lightly damaged, prompting Ziggy to work on the vehicle's underside. Noam's emotion-detecting ability detects the presence of a new Anomal, making the Anomal's rescue a priority for the crew. In order to enter the trailer park, Pax can use a metal bar to pry open the sheet metal barrier. Otherwise Sai can be asked to open it using her physical strength. Pax, Ziggy, and Theo enter the trailer park while everyone else stays near the bus, though if Sai is not on the Way of the Heart Coda, she will join the search party too. Inside, the search team notices that the trailers have fake doors and windows. When the crew approaches Mike, the latter succumbs to paranoia and points a Justice rifle at the crew while accusing them of being with the Horned Riders who damaged his crops. The party can either disarm him or knock him out, allowing Pax to remove the Echo from his head. If Mike is still conscious, he will calm down, regain his sense of hospitality, and share what he knows about the trailer park.
The crew has two ways to open the entrance to the underground school. The simplest way requires Sai to be in the search team, in which case Pax can ask her to move the mobile home through force. The other method requires the team to solve a puzzle with the nearby pay phone. The phone's solar panel is misaligned and must be readjusted before Pax can interact with it. After that, she must use her ME-EM to capture an Echo near the mobile home, revealing a passcode (*1138) that can be inputted into the phone. This grants access to the Project Babel switchboard. Pax then has to enter the location number, 0165, which indicates Elko County Facility. Next, Theo has to hack Mike's Justice rifle to obtain the Justice identification number, 39825, which can be inputted into the phone to unlock the mobile home's rail mechanics. Theo and Ziggy lift the latches, allowing Pax to interact with the phone one last time to electronically move the mobile home, revealing the entrance. Theo uses his deck to reactivate the elevator, but the group decides that only Pax and Ziggy should enter in case Theo needs to activate the elevator again.
Underground[]
Once the elevator reaches its destination, Pax and Ziggy find themselves in a school hallway full of lockers and classrooms. Ziggy brings up several Justice conspiracy theories she heard, such as Justice's creation of the Broadcast, Justice kidnapping children for experimentation, and JFK still being alive, though Pax will remark that the last one is unlikely. Pax can take note of a large poster of John F. Kennedy, prompting Ziggy to state that JFK would never approve of Justice's current tyranny, though Pax thinks otherwise. The duo goes through several classrooms in order to bypass the rubble in the hallways, all while finding some deactivated robots. Ziggy takes a short break and opens up to Pax about her phobias and resentment of being abandoned, giving the two a chance to improve their relationship.
In the library, the duo finds even more robots and a locked door to the rest of the school. Partway through, the lights mysteriously switch off, and if Pax attempts to turn them back on, the lights will go off when she moves too far away from the switch. Ziggy determines that the Universal Robotic Port lock can only be deactivated with a finger from a robot. When Pax and Ziggy turn back to look for a robot, they find that all but one robot disappeared. Ziggy instructs Pax on how to remove the robot's arm, but the robot reactivates afterwards and tries to grab Pax's face, prompting her to swing the robot's removed arm at them. The duo then unlocks the door and enters the next hallway.
Pax tells Ziggy about the cons that she pulled in Pacifica, only for this moment to be interrupted by several hostile robots. After the robots are defeated, Pax attempts to capture a nearby Echo, only for a squid to eat it at the last second. Ziggy takes a momentary break in the stairwell in order to comprehend the bizarre existence of the squids, giving Pax a chance to sit down as well and continue trying to reconcile with her sister. Downstairs, Pax tries to capture another Echo, causing the squid to steal it too and open the door to the gym. Pax and Ziggy find Eli surrounded by several Horned Riders and realize that he is the Anomal that Noam sensed. They team up with him to defeat the Horned Riders and tell him about their circumstances, leading to him joining the team.
In the next classroom, the party finds a chasm across the entire room, with only a metal beam connecting to the other side. Pax walks across first, but when Ziggy attempts to follow her, she falls into a dark and dusty space inside the walls. Eli looks for another path to catch up with the rest of the team. Pax continues downstairs and finds the wall Ziggy is trapped in. She then uses her voice to guide Ziggy to the thinnest part of the wall, allowing Ziggy to use her Vox to phase into the hallway. In the indoor park, Pax and Ziggy have a chance to bond further on the swing set, but a group of robots barge in to fight them. In the next hallway, Pax and Ziggy reunite with Eli, who requests a visit to his room. The party looks for a Bituman doll that Ophelia made for Eli, all while he explains Justice's secret Anomal experiments, as well as his plan to access the computer room in the bottom of the facility.
In the cafeteria, the party defeats a mob of robots, only for Horned Rider reinforcements to ambush them. This culminates in a fight against the Fireman, a fireproof Anomal who fights with a flamethrower. In the next hallway, Pax defeats the squid and forces them to release the stolen Echoes, which causes the door to the computer room to open. While Ziggy and Eli examine the computers, Pax continues further in and finds the robot driver in the whispering room. Thanks to the whispering room's technology, the robot gained a soul and got infected by an Echo. After Pax removes the Echo, the robot, now known as Caretaker, reveals that they used to work in the school. Caretaker refuses to return to the bus because they feel obligated to wait for the children under their care to return, but Pax uses the Hoax Vox to tell Caretaker that the children are fine. Ziggy and Eli catch up to Pax and Caretaker, with Eli recognizing Caretaker as the one who raised him. Caretaker reactivates the elevator so that the party can return to the surface.
Horned Rider encounter[]
At the surface, the Horned Riders take Theo and Noam hostage, demanding Eli's surrender in exchange for their safety. Pax refuses to hand over her new Anomal friend, and a fight ensues against the Horned Riders and Patsy. If Mike is still conscious, he will fire his gun at the ground to force a ceasefire, otherwise Noam will use their gaslighting Vocal to calm the Horned Riders down. This gives Eli a chance to apologize to Patsy for abandoning her, leading to a truce between the crew and the Horned Riders. Before leaving, the crew has the option of performing a song for the Horned Riders.
Physical description[]
Outside[]
The trailer park is surrounded by a sheet metal fence with barbed wire lining the top. Near where the bus crashed, there is a picnic table, two chairs, a trash can, an orange pitcher, a cooler, a private property sign, and several tires. The private property sign indicates that the trailer park belongs to Republic Mobile Homes Ltd., but it also states that a Justice ID is needed to get in and that the reader can dial *1138 to contact management. One metal panel has a loose corner that can be pried open.
Inside the park, there are several dumpsters, metal cans, and identical travel trailers, but all of the trailers are props with fake doors and windows. On the top level, there is a mobile home, a travel trailer, a video phone, portable outhouses, dumpsters, a chair, a small table, a red cooler, and a tomato garden that is planted between rails. The mobile home has a mechanism that causes it to move on the rails, as well as latches to keep it in place. Once the mobile home is moved, it exposes an underground staircase leading to an elevator.
Underground[]
B1F[]
On the first basement floor, the interior walls of the hallways are painted blue and white to match Justice's color scheme, while occasionally displaying poetry from famous writers like Robert Frost. There is a reception window with metal bars, a bulletin board, a large Kennedy poster depicting him with an army of Justice officers, and a cardboard cutout of a Justice officer. Due to a lack of maintenance, the hallways are blocked by rubble and misplaced desks, though many classrooms have two exits that allow the party to circumvent the debris. The classrooms contain old computers, student desks with blue chairs, fake windows depicting various outdoor biomes, and typical school supplies. The library contains several bookshelves, computers, Justice propaganda posters, and several rusty robots from the American Robotics Corporation. The library's first door has no lock, but the second door is locked from the inside with a Universal Robotic Port.
B2F[]
On the second basement floor, there is a gymnasium with bleachers, an indoor basketball court, exercise mats, and a cart containing basketballs and a football. The hallway interior walls are mint green and white. One of the classrooms has a large chasm across the floor that leads to inside the wall of the third basement floor hallway. There is a bar that goes across the chasm, but is unstable and liable to collapse if too much strain is put on it.
B3F[]
On the third basement floor, the interior walls are yellow and white. In the central part of the hallway, one can see the cafeteria from the next floor down. There is an indoor playground with a swing set, benches, artificial trees, arched monkey bars, a see-saw, a slide, a carousel, artificial grass, and interior walls depicting an outside park. The student dorms are on this floor, though only Eli's room is explored. His room contains several dolls and toys, a radiator, two beds, two desks, two bookshelves, two closets, blue curtains, a security camera, and a fake window depicting grass and trees.
B4F[]
On the fourth basement floor, the interior walls are orange and white. The cafeteria contains several tables, a neon sign saying "CAFETERIA", freezers and refrigerators with display glass, plastic trays, and serving counters. The opposite wall from the serving counters is painted blue and white, with the white portions depicting the modern Justice logo and the text "JUSTICE FOR ALL". One of the rooms contains a lab with audio equipment and old computer console. The lab connects to a smaller room with document binders and more machines, which then connects to an audio test chamber. The audio test chamber has a console that opens the whispering room. The whispering room is spherical, has hexagonal and pentagonal pistons lining the wall, and has a chair connected to the wall through thick electric cables. The hallway has an elevator with a Universal Robotic Port, which connects to the elevator on the first floor and the outside.
