Dustborn Wiki
Spoilers ahead. Are we okay with that, kid?

Sol is a librarian and Anomal working for the Weave resistance, and later joins Pax's crew as a non-Coda member.

History[]

Before the heist[]

Sol was born in around 1977, but was exposed to the Broadcast in the year 2000 and became an Anomal with healing powers. Due to Justice's increasing authoritarianism and the political turmoil withing the American Republic, Sol joined the Wildflowers resistance group, even if it meant leaving his wife and daughter. In either 2018 or 2019, Sol participated in a civil war against the Loyalists, a fascist militia that acted independently from Justice. However, Justice itself was too powerful for the Wildflowers to defeat and Sol was no longer physically capable of fighting like he used to, so he eventually joined a different resistance organization, the Weave, in order to seek nonviolent ways to oppose the regime. He was in charge of the Yellow Brick Road Motel, which was a cover for his library and Weave terminal.

Issue 5: Yellow Brick Road[]

On October 19, 2030, Sol hears people knocking on his door and readies his shotgun, resulting in him shooting Sai when she breaks in. Sol is aghast at his mistake and uses his Vocal to heal Sai. Once Theo enters the library, Sol discusses with him how several libraries went dark and prepares to leave, tasking Pax with securing Mr. Planty. He also activates explosives after Pax leaves Room 3, distracting Praetor Walker and Prefect Kim long enough for Pax to escape. At Peaceful Valley Campground, Sol discusses the details behind his Vocal as well as its limitations. He also talks to Pax and Ziggy about the Weave and their information war with Justice. In turn, Pax and Ziggy tell him about Girl's circumstances and Justice's facilities to create Anomals. When Pax finds Noam suffering from head pain, Sol uses his Vocal to heal Noam.

Issue 6: The Bad Lands[]

During the trip through the Great Plains Exclusion Zone, Sol discusses rumors about this region with the crew and mentions that any scouts sent to there died, though one of them found the origin of the Broadcast. When the bus crashes into a bionic lifeform and Girl runs off, Sol stays behind with most of the crew and spends most of the time chatting with Ziggy about the Weave until Pax, Eli, and Girl return with Ophelia.

At Camp Oakwood, Sol tells Ziggy about the alliance against the fascist militia, the Loyalists. He also expresses a lack of trust in Sara Medina-Castillo's campaign, since he thinks her compromises with various political factions will not be able to stop Justice. Sol talks about the alcohol he used to clean Ziggy's mechanical eye, but states he was only able to rescue one bottle from the Yellow Brick Road and that it takes a lot of time to produce.

Issue 7: Let There Be Light[]

The bus breaks down near an abandoned house in Iowa, with Sol staying with the majority of the crew near the front porch. Sol discusses his dream of starting his own farming commune, but states that this area's soil is inadequate. When Ophelia loses control of her powers due to mental pain buildup, Sol uses his Vocals to temporarily soothe her pain. The crew debates whether or not to keep Ophelia or kick her out, with Sol voting to keep her, since he believes a soldier must not abandon another soldier. However, he is upset when Theo suggests taking Ophelia to Nova Scotia to cure her powers, since Sol sees curing as a precedent to dehumanize and eliminate Anomals. When Girl proposes a hide-and-seek contest, Sol hides behind a plastic plant that is barely taller than he is and complains that such plants lack cover. During Dinner, Sol listens to the original crew's account of their heist in Purity, but Sai storms out in anger at how everyone seems unworried about the danger of the mission. Sol and the others look for Sai, but are unable to find her.

Issue 9: Rotown[]

In Rotown, Sol watches over Girl and remarks on how she can read the room and realize the crew on Justice's crosshairs. When Justice attacks Rotown, he and the crew leave the bus and evacuate to the getaway truck, but Pax comes back with a stab wound. Sol struggles to find a poem that can heal Pax, especially when he also has to worry about the condition of Pax's baby.

Issue 10: The Maine Event[]

In New York City, after Sai reunites with the crew one last time, she decides to leave and pursue her own way of opposing Justice, and Sai will accompany her to help her get started.

Ending[]

Since Sol has no Coda of his own, his fate will depend on Ziggy's Coda, which indicates he left Sai to her own devices at some point.

  • In the Idealist Coda, Sol and Ziggy start a library in New Jersey with the intention of rebuilding the Weave in the Republic.
  • In the Defeatist Coda, Sol will help Ziggy start her own commune, Hope.
  • In the Pragmatist Coda, Sol and Ziggy will join an armed resistance group on the East Coast.

Appearance[]

Sol is a short man with brown eyes, brown hair, blonde accents in his hair, partial baldness, and a mutton chops mustache. By default, he wears a white undershirt, a blue shirt with a pattern consisting of flamingos, russet shorts, a while belt with a yellow scorpion belt buckle, white socks, a yellow wristband on his right arm, and sandals with black soles and japonica colored straps. Sometimes, he will wear a russet fedora and a brown jacket.

His wardrobe throughout the game consists of the following:

  • In Issues 5, 6, 9, 10, and the Pragmatist Coda ending, he wears his default attire.
  • In Issue 7, he wears a brown shirt with a pattern consisting of red mushrooms.
  • In the Defeatist Coda ending, he wears a fuscous gray jacket with fur portions.
  • In the Idealist Coda ending, he wears a plain orange shirt.

Personality[]

Due to the trauma Sol suffered from past civil wars, he needs an emotional support philodendron, Mr. Planty, in order to cope. He also cannot bear to leave a comrade behind, regardless of pragmatism. At the same time, he sees Vocals as part of an Anomal's identity and rejects the idea of curing these powers, seeing it as a slippery slope to justify anti-Anomalism. Although he is part of the nonviolent Weave resistance, he is willing to use guns and explosives against any Justice officer who tries to capture him, but he also wants to believe that using information and language will eventually bear fruit against Justice.

Abilities[]

Guerilla warfare[]

Due to his experience in the previous civil war, Sol knows how to set up explosives and use a shotgun. However, he states he can no longer hold a gun like he used to.

Vocals[]

Sol can recite poetry in order to heal wounds, but it cannot cure specific illnesses like cancer nor can it revive the dead. His healing is less effective against more dire wounds, such as when Pax is stabbed, and will fail entirely if the target cannot hear him due to unconsciousness. However, it can be used to soothe mental trauma, which dampens the pain that Ophelia feels.
