Dustborn Wiki

Purity is an independent city-state where the Puritans are headquartered. Although this is one of the earliest locations the crew visits chronologically, there is no playable section for it until the Raid minigame in Issue 8.

History[]

Spoilers ahead. Are we okay with that, kid?

At some point in California's or Pacifica's history, the Puritans converted Castle Rock State Park into a metropolis in order to conduct research on Protolanguage and various fields of technology, but this involved kidnapping Anomals in order to use them as experimental subjects. On September 15, Pax, Theo, Noam, and Sai scope out the city in preparation for their upcoming heist, with Sai being incredulous at both the scale of the city and the prospect of fighting the Puritans. On October 13, the crew enter a facility in Purity known as the Loop, where they fight an Acolyte cyborg, who goes down quickly due to being alone. Theo uses his Puritan employee ID to bypass a door, only for a pair of Brutoids to attack. As the crew goes further in, they find security lighter in the Inner Loop due to the Puritans never expecting intruders to make it this far. They run into a guard, but avoid a fight due to Pax and Noam using their Vocals to rile up and calm down the target. After fighting two Brutoids and one Acolyte, the crew reaches the server room. When Pax attempts to insert a datakey into the terminal, four Brutoids, two Acolytes, and the Adjunct arrive on the scene. The leader of the Puritans, the Overseer, is not present in the server room, and instead projects a large hologram of herself in order to observe the battle. After the crew defeats this last line of defense, Pax resumes her attempt to download the Puritans' Protolanguage data, but a trap on the terminal injures her right shoulder. While Theo and Noam check on Pax's wound, Sai copies the data onto a second datakey. The crew flees the Loop and drives to La Torre in their rental car.

Physical description[]

The prologue comic depicts Purity as a city consisting of mostly white buildings of varying heights. Among these buildings are the Chancel and the Loop, though the comic panel does not specify or label the depicted buildings. The buildings and several sections of grass surround a large, lake-sized fountain, which shows the Puritans' ability to dominate nature while combining natural and artificial beauty. Several Puritan ships fly through the city's airspace, showing how secure the city is and how much military power the Puritans have.

The Chancel[]

The Chancel is described as a pristine space surrounded by lush gardens, where only the Overseer and other Puritan elites are allowed.[1]

The Loop[]

The first room has potted plants, hanging plants, white interior walls, a white ceiling, a white floor with red lines, and a large white door with an employee ID card lock. The second room is more dimly lit, has pipes on the walls, and wall pillars with vertical lights, but otherwise has a similar color scheme as the previous room. The third room has a large staircase going upwards and a hangar door that leads to a Puritan ship. The server room is circular, has pillars lining the walls, and a short cylindrical terminal in the center. The walls are also lined with rectangles that have a circular cutout surrounding a dot, and every ten rectangles are separated by a pillar. Although the walls appear white in the Issue 10 flashback, the lighting in the Raid minigame makes the walls appear purple.

It’s the Vatican inside the Vatican, a pristine, exclusive space surrounded by lush gardens, where only the elite are allowed. From here, the Overseer rules, mostly appearing through massive video projections to the outside world."
