Dustborn Wiki
Spoilers ahead. Are we okay with that, kid?

Girl is the first non-Coda member of Pax's crew. Her real name is unknown and her lack of speech prevents much of her past from being revealed, but it is clear she is a post-Broadcast Anomal.

History[]

Before the heist[]

Girl's history before the heist is unknown, but she was clearly born long after the Broadcast. Due to her youth, the crew speculates that she was either exposed to a whispering room like Eli and Ophelia or born to Anomal parents.

Issue 5: Yellow Brick Road[]

Girl is first seen in Justice custody in Alpine Visitor Center in Colorado, where she blows away one of her captors with her Vocal. Afterwards, she runs off and draws multiple Echoes into her head to protect herself, but Pax removes them. She is still too shaken by the recent events and uses a Vocal on Pax, but Pax uses Normalize to tell her that the distress she feels is normal and that the world is just screwed up at times. Girl then calms down and joins the crew on the bus, but due to her muteness, she cannot explain her family situation or even name to them. At the Standard Energy Service Station, Girl plays Crypts and Cultists with Eli and Noam while waiting for the rest of the group to get food and fuel. At Peaceful Valley Campground, the crew wonders if calling her "Girl" is being presumptive about her gender. Afterwards, Eli tells Girl about how Ophelia kept him safe and how the crew will do the same for her. At the campfire, the crew decides on using Shakespeare literature in order to get Girl to fall asleep.

Issue 6: The Bad Lands[]

After the bus crashes into a bionic lifeform in the Great Plains Exclusion Zone, Girl runs off deeper into Lebanon due to noticing all the Echoes gathering at the Kennedy Institute. She makes her way to a Betty's Diner, where she meets a masked Anomal woman and is somehow able to communicate with her without speech. When Pax and Eli arrive, Girl tells the masked woman that Pax is searching for the Tree of Tongues. Girl then leads the group to the top of the Kennedy Institute, where they find a giant squid that is only hostile towards Justice. After the other group members appease the squid with music, a bionic creature takes them to a smaller crystalline tree in a whispering room, which produces whispers that Girl and the masked woman can hear. After Pax frees the true Tree of Tongues from Justice's grasp, the group returns to the bus and introduce Ophelia to everyone else.

At Camp Oakwood, Girl listens to Eli and Ophelia talk about how they changed their names to mess with Mr. Garvey, but get confused on Ophelia's preferred name, causing Girl to laugh. Ophelia explains to Pax that Girl is capable of communicating not with words or a voice, but something different.

Issue 7: Let There Be Light[]

After the bus breaks down near an abandoned house in Iowa, Girl joins Pax in looking for a way into the residence. She uses her Echo controlling ability so that Pax can capture it near the basement door, causing the air explosion to break the door. After Pax opens the front door, Ophelia loses control of her powers, causing the present crew members to debate over whether or not to kick her out. Girl tries to comfort Ophelia and proposes that the crew plays a hide-and-seek game. When Girl is caught, she refuses to admit defeat and moves to different locations multiple times. In order, she hides behind rusted cans, inside a chicken coop, under a bed, under the kitchen sink, and on the roof. After the game, Girl gathers multiple Echoes into the farm so that Pax can capture over a hundred and craft a the ultimate Vocal. After Pax fails to master the new Vocal and takes a nap, Girl holds her ear towards Pax's womb, showing that she is aware of Pax's baby and the Vocal power they hold. Once it is dinnertime, Girl listens to the original crew's summary of the heist in Purity, but Sai loses her temper at the crew's lack of care for danger and leaves. Girl and the crew try to look for her, but she is nowhere to be found.

Issue 9: Rotown[]

In Rotown, Girl is aware that the crew's situation is bad because they are on Justice's radar, so she tries to pass the time by drawing a hopscotch grid with chalk. She later enters the getaway truck with everyone else, but Pax returns with a gaping stab wound from Prefect Kim.

Issue 10: The Maine Event[]

In the hospital parking garage in New York City, Girl waits with the rest of the crew for Sai, Ziggy, and Eli to rescue Pax. At a Standard Energy Service Station, Eli teaches Girl how to refuel Ruth's van. At Betty's Diner, Girl builds a house of cards while Theo tries to ask her name, but she never gives an answer. At Schoodic Point, the crew splits up to evade Justice and the Puritans, with Girl going with Noam, Theo, and Nainai. This team is captured by the Overseer at the dock, and then freed by Pax's last-ditch gamble on her positive Vocal. After the Herald, aka Axiom, kills Theo, Girl gathers countless Echoes into Pax's womb, allowing Pax and her baby to defeat the Herald with their most powerful Vocal. Girl either gets on the boat or stays on the mainland depending on Eli's Coda path.

Ending[]

Since Girl has no Coda of her own, her fate depends on Eli's Coda.

  • In the Optimist Coda, Girl will go to Nova Scotia with Eli and Ophelia to help with Protolanguage research and help Ophelia find a cure for her powers.
  • In the Realist Coda, Girl will go back west with Eli and Ophelia in order to expose Justice's crimes to the media.
  • In the Blood Coda, Girl, Eli, and Ophelia will explore the Republic in order to look for their missing families.

Appearance[]

Girl has a brown afro, yellow eyes, and several line and circle marks on her skin similar to Pax and Eli's. Her default attire consists of a white shirt, light blue short overalls, a falcon colored cardigan with yellow zigzag lines, and yellow rubber boots. In Eli's Coda ending comics, Girl replaces the coat with a green jacket that has white sections on the sleeves. In the character menu, she wears Pax's red jacket instead of her default coat.

Personality[]

Girl starts out distrustful of the crew, but quickly becomes close to them and tries to help them in her own way, despite her lack of speech. Girl is also more perceptive than she lets on, yet also reckless, since she quickly grasps Pax's intentions of finding the Tree of Tongues and runs off from the group to lure Pax to her goal. She enjoys playing games with the crew, but can also be a sore loser, as shown by her multiple retries in Issue 7's hide-and-seek session. Although she has a found family, she still feels grief over her original one's uncertain fate and holds a robotic doll to cope with the situation.

Abilities[]

Vocal[]

Girl can use a harmful Vocal that can cause pain and knockback, similar to Pax's Push and Cancel as well as Ophelia's pain sharing, but the exact details behind the ability are unknown. Pax describes it as a painful humming sound that can be transmitted.

Telepathy[]

Although Girl cannot speak, she is able to communicate with Ophelia and only Ophelia without words. How this relates to the pair's similar Vocals is unknown.

Echo control[]

Girl has the unique ability to see Echoes, attract them, and control their movement without having to use the ME-EM console. She can move them to strategic locations so that when Pax captures them with the ME-EM, the air blast can move or destroy obstacles. She can also gather many of them into a single location to allow for mass capture or to empower someone else's Vocals.
